This tiny book cost me $8.95. It is 72 pages long and isn’t even bigger than my tiny 5 inch tablet. I started following this guy, Tai Lopez. I found him on TED TALKS.
I swear I love Ted Talks. Some amazing people are featured on there. Inspiring to say the least.
So…is this book worth $8.95? For me…no. Not saying it’s not a handy little book, it is. I think it’s more so targeted for individuals starting out. Someone who is still figuring out what they want and how to go about it. If you’re just beginning your journey in self discovery for a fulfilling work path, this book will help.
I’ve been on this journey for quite some time now. Tai Lopez says we should read a book a day…it’s impossible for me to read a book a day. But he gave me tips on how to go about it. I was watching one of his videos and he said it’s OK to ready multiple books at one time…which I already do. Before Tai I was thinking, I NEED to finish one book at a time. And I started working on that. Lone behold I’ve been unsuccessful. But after watching his video, I don’t feel the need to anymore 🙂 I’m kind of all over the place …at least now I know in this case it’s OK. It works for me.
There is one thing that I agree strongly with in this book. When we’re not 100% satisfied with our 1st job, we need to make sure we’re pursuing something 2nd outside of the job we must do. Outside the job that pays our bills. Did that make sense?
You know the saying, “Don’t learn the hard way?” I learned the hard way. I didn’t have anyone to tell me how to make a bad situation better. Or how to find happiness in what may seem so…not happy. My day job is good. A few years ago I didn’t see it that way though. But now I do. I value my place within the company. I have health insurance, they match my 401k contributions. I get a decent amount of vacation time. It’s a good job. Most people would be very happy doing what I do. But unfortunately for me, I’m a passion driven person. I’m happy doing things I have passion for. Like writing, music, art, changing lives, nurturing animals and mother nature. I am a person who needs to make a difference, I strongly believe in contribution. I must have meaning in my life to truly be happy. I learned after some time that I couldn’t just have a job. But I had no other choice. Non profits are great, but I’m a single mom. I can’t just drop everything and chase my dreams. I have responsibilities just like you do.
BUT…there is an alternative. We can still pursue our dreams and still pay the bills. You may hate your job…that must suck. The only way you can relieve that pain, because it really is painful…is to do what you enjoy outside of it. Don’t be lazy. Don’t be content or complacent and except things as they are. That’s the thing with people, always hoping and wishing and not doing.
I bet if you actually spent your time not watching TV and pursued the things that bring you joy…you probably wouldn’t hate your job so much. Just maybe you might even start to appreciate your job in some way. It might even make you a better performer at work. You become an asset instead of a number? Think about it, when we’re happy, we shine everywhere.
It’s true…I’ve been there. So…this book might help you. Any amount of money on self-improvement is never too much. And a book a day…or at least a month is you feeding your brain. Learning and growing…it’s powerful. I’m a chaser of intellect…the more you know right?
So I retract my beginning thoughts…the book is worth it. It’s an affirmation that I’m on the right track. So buy the book! 🙂
Happy Monday and have a strong week ahead!
