So, before Covid-19, I was volunteering at the animal shelter every weekend. There were about thirty, maybe forty dogs at a time.
When Covid hit, to my amazement, the shelter stayed almost empty for the duration of the lockdowns! There were people literally waiting in line for the shelter to open! It was a beautiful sight. I stopped volunteering because, well…all the cuties finally found a home ❤❤❤
I discovered a lot of things during my lock-down. Things I use to believe in, I no longer believe. People I use to follow, I no longer follow. My reality regarding almost EVERYTHING has changed! Talk about a “Shattered Reality. ” Shout out to The Leo King.
I tend to see and look for the best in people. Most humans I believe are inherently good. Unfortunately, sometimes people can be selfish and irresponsible. Some are aware and don’t care, while others may have a lapse in judgment and need a little reminding.
Now that the world has opened up again, the shelters are full to capacity. I guess people see dogs like toys??? 😥 I understand some may not have a choice but to surrender their dog. Sometimes it’s in the dog’s best interest to do so. But I’m positive not all 80 dogs currently in the shelter were surrendered for the dog’s best interest. It was in the human’s best interest. These dogs were “found” wandering the streets. It was too much to drive the dog to the shelter for a safe surrender 😡 I can’t help but feel anger and disappointment.
I live in an apartment complex that I really don’t like at all. Rent is high, my water bill is consistently $100. My PG&E is always also $100 or more. And my trash bill always fluctuates! The community??? Do people still think it’s okay to liter?! To top this all off, the property management team sucks. Why do I stay??? They allow me to keep my LARGE best friend 😄
Meet Tyson 😊
But after living in a complex that allows dogs, I understand why it’s hard to find rentals that allow it. Irresponsible owners. They are provided with FREE waste bags, but still…💩 left on the lawn. There are signs stating your dog’s must be on a leash and still…I see dogs off-leash 🤦🏻♀️ See my dilemma?
I would love to foster, but I literally don’t have the space. This has driven me to set a new goal for myself. Turning your passion into your life’s work is a life worth living. At least that’s what people say 😁 I will let you know once I’ve accomplished my goal.
If you’re in the Stockton area (California, USA), please consider fostering or adopting 🙏🙏🙏 Dogs are so loyal and truth be told, many dog owners don’t deserve the love a dog gives. I see them left outside ALL day and night with hardly any interaction. Dogs are social pack animals people…what is your problem?!! Sorry, I’m just so passionate about this. Actually #SorryNotSorryAssholes 😂
So…if you’re not in my area, maybe check out your local shelter and see if there is a need for help. I hope it doesn’t have the same outcome as mine did here ❤
